Lunenburg Council is taking the next steps in addressing the town’s growing childcare needs by identifying two potential sites for a new daycare facility.

At the latest council meeting, several locations were reviewed, with Starr Street near Hillcrest Cemetery and the Blue Building at 87 Victoria Road emerging as the top contenders.

The proposed daycare, spearheaded by the Lunenburg Daycare Centre (LDCC), aims to create 96 licensed childcare spaces to address a waiting list of over 230 children.

The Starr Street site offers a central location but would require significant infrastructure upgrades, including sidewalks and utilities. Meanwhile, the Blue Building site provides proximity to recreation facilities but would necessitate the relocation of Public Works.

A public hearing will be scheduled to gather input from residents on these potential sites.

This hearing will be an opportunity for the community to share their views and help guide the council’s decision. Details of the hearing will be posted on the Town’s website and social media channels.
