The Town of Emo says it will be seeking a judicial review of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario ruling.

The Tribunal ordered the town to pay ten thousand dollars and the mayor Harold McQuaker, to complete human rights training.

The Tribunal ruling was in connection to a 2020 decision by Emo to not declare Pride month saying it was discriminatory to the Pride community.

The town says because it’s now before the courts it will not be commenting further.

But Borderland Pride has responded to the Town of Emo’s decision.

In a release it says, “The decision to pursue judicial review by this council reflects their continued abdication of municipal leadership, their failure to promote community safety and respect for law and legal institutions, a blatant disrespect for taxpayers.
