Canada’s premiers met with the prime minister to discuss border plans before Donald Trump takes office.

This comes after the president elect threatened to impose 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian goods, unless the country tightens its borders.

New Brunswick premier Susan Holt says they’ve created a list of retaliatory measures, but the conversation mostly focused on other strategies to deal with the tariff threat.

Ontario premier Doug Ford says Canada must be ready to fight this.

“We will go to the extent of cutting off their energy going down to Michigan, going down to New York State and over to Wisconsin,” he said.

Ford says he doesn’t want it to come to that.

But his main priority is protecting people in Ontario and Canada as a whole.

Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc says the premiers made a lot of positive suggestions for the plan.
