A Dartmouth man is facing charges for human trafficking.

Halifax Police say they arrested a 58-year-old man on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation.

They say the man was allegedly using violence and coercion to traffic a survivor.

He faces several charges, including sexual assault, trafficking people for material benefit, material benefit from sexual services, and advertising sexual services.

Polie say the investigation is ongoing.

Human trafficking has detrimental and long-term impacts on victims, they say, and the Nova Scotia Human Trafficking Unit has specially trained staff to deal with human trafficking and sexual violence.

Every report is taken seriously and victims are treated with a high level of care and compassion,” the police writes in a news release.
