On a disappointing hockey day in the country, the Yarmouth Mariners gave fans something to smile about.

Liam Dutcher scored in overtime to lift the Mariners over Pictou County 3-2 Sunday afternoon.

That’s Yarmouth’s fourth straight win on home ice, their longest stretch of the season

Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says they’ve been playing ‘Mariner’ hockey lately.

“We’ve competed hard for one, but two we’ve had a little bit of jump. I’m glad we’ve been treating our fans, they deserve it,” said Barron postgame.

The Mariners had just 16 skaters due to injuries and suspensions.

Dutcher says it was a big win.

“We’re down a lot of bodies, three lines of forwards. It felt good to get that one for sure, just a gutsy effort from the boys,” said Dutcher.

The Mariners are out of playoff contention, but still have a lot of hockey to play.

Yarmouth has five games left in the season, the next three are on the road.

They wrap up the season at home March 7 and 8.
