A 29‑year‑old man from Fundy Albert was arrested after the RCMP seized a loaded handgun in Riverview, and later found a prohibited firearm.

Members of the Codiac Crime Reduction Unit Priority Offender team and the Integrated Enforcement Unit located a man wanted on an unendorsed warrant at a business on Hillsborough Road on Monday.

Police said he fled when officers approached, and an officer caught up to him before a physical altercation took place.

The man was arrested and suffered minor injuries, according to the RCMP.

A search of the individual led to the seizure of a loaded 9‑millimetre handgun, money, Percocet tablets and body armour.

Officers later executed a search warrant on Monday at a home on Route 114 in Fundy Albert, where they seized a rifle and ammunition.

The 29‑year‑old appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged with:

  • possession of a loaded restricted firearm without authorization or registration
  • possession of a restricted firearm for a purpose dangerous to the public peace
  • carrying a firearm in a careless manner
  • carrying a firearm without reasonable precautions for the safety of others
  • possession of a firearm knowing the serial number was removed
  • possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • possession of a restricted firearm knowing no licence/registration
  • possession of property over $5000 obtained by crime
  • failure to comply with a release order
  • resisting/obstructing a peace officer

Mounties added that he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on March 10.
