A 29‑year‑old man from Fundy Albert was arrested after the RCMP seized a loaded handgun in Riverview, and later found a prohibited firearm.
Members of the Codiac Crime Reduction Unit Priority Offender team and the Integrated Enforcement Unit located a man wanted on an unendorsed warrant at a business on Hillsborough Road on Monday.
Police said he fled when officers approached, and an officer caught up to him before a physical altercation took place.
The man was arrested and suffered minor injuries, according to the RCMP.
A search of the individual led to the seizure of a loaded 9‑millimetre handgun, money, Percocet tablets and body armour.
Officers later executed a search warrant on Monday at a home on Route 114 in Fundy Albert, where they seized a rifle and ammunition.
The 29‑year‑old appeared in court on Tuesday and was charged with:
- possession of a loaded restricted firearm without authorization or registration
- possession of a restricted firearm for a purpose dangerous to the public peace
- carrying a firearm in a careless manner
- carrying a firearm without reasonable precautions for the safety of others
- possession of a firearm knowing the serial number was removed
- possession of a firearm while prohibited
- possession of a restricted firearm knowing no licence/registration
- possession of property over $5000 obtained by crime
- failure to comply with a release order
- resisting/obstructing a peace officer
Mounties added that he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on March 10.
