A former RCMP member already facing criminal charges related to sexual offences against a minor is facing seven more.

Jeremy Bastarache, formerly a corporal with the RCMP, was charged Friday with the following offences:

  • Possession of child pornography
  • Making child pornography
  • Agreement or arrangement – sexual offence against child (under 18 years old)
  • Agreement or arrangement – sexual offence against child (under 16 years old)
  • Procuring – person under 18 years
  • Communicating for obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person under 18 years
  • Trafficking of a person under the age of eighteen years

Bastarache was previously charged in June 2024 after an investigation by the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), RCMP J Division Integrated Child Exploitation Unit and Digital Forensics Services.

According to the RCMP, the charge set out reasonable and probable grounds that between April 24 and 29, 2024, Bastarache “did by means of telecommunication, make arrangements with a person, for the purpose of facilitating, towards a person whom he believed to be under 16 years old.”

The investigation had continued since then, leading to Friday’s charges.

A press release from the RCMP said there was collaboration with law enforcement agencies in Canada, the United States and Australia.

Bastarache is scheduled to appear in Moncton provincial court on Feb. 9 at 9:30 a.m.
