A 2021 sudden‑death case in Saint‑Paul is now being investigated as a homicide after new information came forward in recent years.
Officers were called to a home on October 27, 2021, for what was reported as a sudden death.
Police said they found 33‑year‑old Hyde Jochelman dead inside the residence.
New information and evidence surfaced between 2022 and 2024 through ongoing investigative work, forensic findings, collaboration with the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office, and information provided by Jochelman’s family.
Mounties explained those developments led investigators to reassess the case.
The RCMP has formed a team of senior investigators dedicated to reviewing and advancing the file.
The goal is to ensure all investigative avenues are explored and that no further time is lost, according to police.
“We understand that members of the public may have questions about why this file is now being investigated as a homicide,” Staff Sgt. Dan Sharpe said in the release.
“As new information came to light, it was our duty to act on it. Our priority is to determine the truth and to bring closure to Hyde’s family.”
Officers executed a search warrant at a home in Saint‑Paul on Thursday as part of the ongoing investigation.
The RCMP is asking anyone who may have seen Jochelman, or who has information about her movements or associates between January 2019 and October 2021, to contact 1‑888‑506‑RCMP (7267).
Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
