N.S. musician writes song about plow filling in shoveled driveway

Many of us have been there, especially over the last couple of days.

You’ve just finished shoveling the driveway – then the plow goes by. Now, a Nova Scotia musician has written a song about it.

Danny MacNeil from Sydney, Cape Breton, has been a singer/songwriter for 20 years and he has penned, Plow Just Went By.

The 36-year-old tells us, he started working on it a couple of years ago when the area was experiencing what he refers to as ‘Snowmageddon’.

“We just got pounded with snow. My kids were quite small. We have three-year-old twins, and I was working and it felt like I was out shoveling every few hours that winter,” says MacNeil.

He says the song is really about things in life that pull us away from our family or kids.

“There’s something that’s going to happen that you’re going to have to take care of,” says MacNeil. “There’s always a kind of looming responsibility that you’re going to be pulled away for.”

On the surface, however, he says many can resonate with the song because we spend time in the winter peering out the window for when the plow will go by. Again.

“We all know it’s going to happen. The plow is going to go by, and we have to go back out there,” says MacNeil.

Plow Just Went By is a big hit in the MacNeil household.

“We have a big window in the front, and the kids would run to the window. My son would wave. He loves the plow. So, that’s where the chorus came through. Plow just went by,” explains MacNeil.

The song will be streaming on all platforms, January 30.
