RCMP in the Halifax region have had a busy week when it comes to impaired drivers.
Since Jan. 17, officers have arrested four people in separate incidents, all for impaired driving-related offences.
On Jan. 17 at approximately 8 p.m., officers, paramedics and fire services responded to a report of an injured man in Dufferin Mines.
The man had apparently rolled his tractor on a property in the 700 block of Dufferin Mines Road.
Officers located the man, who had non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police, the man was showing signs of being under the influence of alcohol.
The 56-year-old Dufferin Mines man provided a breath sample for a roadside test and failed. An officer issued a demand for a blood sample before the man was taken to hospital.
The man was later released from hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
Next, on Jan. 19 at approximately 5:50 p.m., RCMP officers responded to a report of a man passed out in a van in the 1400 block of Fall River Road.
When officers arrived, they found the 80-year-old Waverley man with open alcohol in the vehicle and showing signs of impairment.
He was arrested and taken to the Lower Sackville RCMP detachment where he provided two samples of his breath.
The readings came back at 120 and 130 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.
The man was released and will appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
He’s facing charges of driving while impaired and driving with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit.
On Jan. 20 at approximately 8:30 p.m., police, fire and ambulance crews responded to a report of a vehicle that had gone over a guardrail on Highway 7 in Westphal.
Officers located a Toyota CH-R on its roof in the ditch.
The 24-year-old driver, a man from Eastern Passage, was being assisted by paramedics and firefighters when officers noticed signs of impairment before he was taken to hospital.
The man was arrested at the hospital and police made a demand for a blood sample.
Finally, on Jan. 20 at approximately 9 p.m., police responded to a report of a verbal dispute at a home in Hammonds Plains.
Officers attended the home and were told by the residents the suspect was out on his ATV and had been drinking.
The ATV was spotted driving by. It made a U-turn in the middle of the road and failed to stop when directed by police.
Officers returned to the home at 9:44 p.m. and located the ATV driver.
He was showing signs of alcohol impairment and police issued a breath demand.
The 31-year-old man failed to provide a proper sample and was arrested for refusing to provide a sample.
The man was later released and will make an appearance in Halifax provincial court at a later date.
