Man who was subject of emergency alert is dead; SIRT investigating

A man from Sipekne’katik First Nation is dead after a shooting and high-speed chase, early Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP say it was around 8:30 a.m. when they responded to a report of an armed man on Church Street in Sipekne’katik.

He had threatened those in the home before speeding away in a Honda Civic.

Officers found him on Indian Road and followed him to keep the public safe.

An emergency alert was issued for Hants and Colchester Counties, and nearby schools were put under a hold and secure.

The vehicle left the road and with the help of a spike belt and came to a stop on Hwy 236 near Hwy 202.

Shots were then fired, emergency crews tried to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

SiRT has now taken over the investigation.
