New Brunswickers now have a new way to recycle used household batteries, as Call2Recycle launches its provincewide program this month.
The organization said the “Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!” program will give residents and businesses more convenient options to safely dispose of old batteries.
Call2Recycle president and CEO Joe Zenobio explained that the expansion marks an important step for the group’s work on responsible battery management.
“Launching in New Brunswick is an exciting milestone in our mission to protect the environment and advance responsible battery management across Canada,” he said.
Zenobio added that the organization is working with Recycle NB, communities and retailers to make battery recycling “simple, safe and accessible for all New Brunswickers.”
Recycle NB CEO Tim LeBlanc said the partnership will expand the number of drop‑off sites already operating under Call2Recycle’s voluntary program.
“Call2Recycle is planning to significantly expand its network of battery drop‑off locations,” he said.
LeBlanc said the added sites are expected to increase diversion rates and reduce the amount of waste entering provincial landfills.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage said the initiative supports the province’s Strategic Action Plan for Solid Waste Management.
“This initiative helps strengthen our overarching commitment to environmental protection,” he said.
LePage said the program will help reduce waste, promote responsible resource use and support long‑term environmental goals.
Call2Recycle said it has collected more than 55 million kilograms of batteries across Canada since 1997.
The organization said expanding into New Brunswick will increase safe end‑of‑life options for consumer batteries and help prevent risks linked to improper storage or disposal.
Residents can find their nearest drop‑off location and check accepted battery types by searching their postal code online.
Businesses and institutions can also apply on Call2Recycle to become collection partners.
