A statement weekend for the Yarmouth Mariners.
They took three of a possible four points against the league-leading Truro Bearcats.
It started with a commanding 6-1 victory on home ice Friday night.
Owen O’Donnell and Thomas Dandurand each had a goal and an assist, and Keegan Warren made 38 saves.
Justin Garneau, Jared Pitman, Ewan Cleary and Luke Foley also scored.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron called it a complete 60 minutes.
“I thought our work was great, we had 11 forwards and seven defensemen, and everyone pulled the rope. Keegan Warren was spectacular as well, when we had our down moments he bailed us out,” said Barron after Friday’s win.
“Coming into the break we weren’t into a spot we wanted to be in, we got two big points there and we’ll take it,” added Warren, who’s played the most minutes in the league this season.
The Bearcats won the rematch 4-3 in overtime Sunday night in Truro.
Warren put in another solid performance with 45 saves, the Mariners held a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
Ryan Loveless scored twice, O’Donnell had the other goal.
Trade deadline this Saturday
Yarmouth is now four points back of Pictou County for the final playoff spot with over 20 games to go in the season.
The MHL Trade Deadline is this Saturday night, teams will have until then to finalize their rosters for the stretch run.
“Our fans deserve to see a top end team, and we want to try to make it the best team we possibly can,” said Barron.
He says if a deal makes sense to get better, they’ll do it.
