Police officer injured after cruiser hit

A 23-year-old man has been charged after a Fredericton police cruiser was struck on the Princess Margaret Bridge.

Police say it happened at around 5 am on Sunday.

An officer spotted a suspicious vehicle. travelling erratically on Riverside Drive.

Police attempted to pull it over, but the driver failed to stop.

While trying to evade police, they crossed into incoming traffic and collided with another police cruiser responding to the incident.

A police officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver and passenger were then taken into custody.

The 23-year-old male driver faces several charges, including:

• Flight from a peace officer

• Dangerous operation

• Breach of probation

• Driving while prohibited

The passenger was released without charges.

The driver will appear in court at a later date.

Emergency Medical Services, Fredericton Fire Department, forensic collision analysis team, forensic identification services, and tow operators were all on the scene of the incident.
