A big Christmas gift for Feed NB.
Purolator Courier is donating eight trucks to food banks across the country.
Feed NB Executive Director Stephane Sirois says they were asked if they’d like to receive one,”They actually reached out to Food Banks Canada, and then they sent a letter to provincial associations and food banks. They asked if we’d be interested in a truck, and we said, of course. It’s a truck that they’re going to pull off the road and refurbish and then donate it to us.”
Sirois says they can always use additional vehicles for their fleet.
“This will be more of a local truck. So we’ll keep it in the southeast for food drives, for food pickup, food recovery at grocery stores, and for events. And so this will be very useful,” Sirois stated.
He adds they currently have six transport trucks that do provincial runs, and they have an electric van that was donated by CAA two years ago.
“This will be an addition to our fleet that will be used locally, so we can remove a bigger truck that would do that local work and use this one instead. We can put the other one on a longer route to cover the province,” Sirois explained.
He said they don’t have the truck just yet. It is expected to arrive in the coming days, and they will begin using it in the new year.
“The holiday season is a time of giving, and we’re proud to provide resources that enable food banks to deliver vital support to Canadians who need it most,” said Cindy Bailey, Vice-President and Corporate Sustainability Officer for Purolator.
Purolator plans to expand its truck donation program in 2026 to address the significant and growing need for transportation support among food banks nationwide.
