YASTA gets funding to attract more cruise ships

By Kevin Northup Dec 18, 2025 | 9:53 AM

Yarmouth wants to continue being a destination for cruise ships.

Ottawa announced funding for the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association at an announcement this week.

They’re getting over $50,000 to attract more ships, train French speaking tour guides and to help with a five-year strategic plan.

CEO Neil MacKenzie says this will help carry momentum.

“We’ve made a lot of progress, and having ACOA and our municipal partners support us, it means we can bring residents here later in the season and we can grow tourism and initiatives in the region,” said MacKenzie.

He says they already have cruise ship visits booked for 2026.

“I don’t want to jinx it because these things can change, but five are scheduled for this coming year, and three for 2027.”
