A New Brunswick policing team is getting national attention for its crime‑reduction work.
The New Brunswick RCMP said the province’s Integrated Enforcement Unit has been chosen for the 2024 Innovation in Crime Reduction Award.
The award was created under its Vision 150 initiative to highlight policing teams that used new and forward‑thinking approaches to prevent and reduce crime.
Divisions across the country submit nominations each year.
The RCMP said that this year’s nominations included work involving youth engagement, community safety programs, warrant enforcement teams, and training initiatives for frontline officers and partner agencies.
The organization highlighted the New Brunswick unit’s efforts to improve information‑sharing, strengthen collaboration between police and public safety partners, and support intelligence‑led policing.
The RCMP explained that these efforts contributed to significant seizures of illicit materials and several high‑profile arrests, which helped support community safety in the province.
They also indicated that other provinces looked to the unit as a model while exploring new approaches to crime prevention.
The Integrated Enforcement Unit included members of the New Brunswick RCMP, municipal police services, and Justice and Public Safety officers.
The RCMP said the team focused on a coordinated response to concerns involving drugs, firearms, and organized crime in the province.
As the 2024 Unit winner, the team’s name would be added to the national Innovation in Crime Reduction Award plaque displayed at RCMP National Headquarters in Ottawa.
