Heavy rain and strong winds expected across Nova Scotia

By Jessica Laing Dec 17, 2025 | 4:17 PM

There are special weather alerts across Nova Scotia, including in Halifax, Yarmouth and Inverness.

With unseasonably warm temperatures, significant rainfall is expected and could reach over 25 mm from Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon, according to Environment Canada.

Strong winds with southerly wind gusts up to 100 km/h could also occur.

The heavy rainfall combined with melting snow could cause considerable amounts of runoff water and possible flooding, especially in poor drainage areas.

Strong winds may cause tree branches to break which could damage utility lines.

Delays or disruptions could occur to transit systems, ferries, or flights, so it is recommended that you check their statuses in advance.

Remember to clear snow, ice, and other debris from gutters and storm drains to reduce flooding.

Also, secure all loose outdoor items that may blow around by the wind.

You can continue to monitor weather forecasts and alerts issued by Environment Canada.
