Uniform change is on the way for frontline officers in New Brunswick, and the public will start seeing it early in 2026.
The RCMP said officers in the province will begin wearing new navy‑blue uniform shirts as part of a national effort to modernize the police service’s appearance.
The rollout is happening across the country on a province‑by‑province schedule.
As officers receive the updated shirts, the RCMP said people can expect a transition period where both the new navy shirts and the older grey shirts are worn on duty.
The police service says the mix of colours may stand out to some members of the public.
Corporal Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP said the change could confuse some people.
“We understand that seeing a new uniform, or two members wearing different coloured shirts, could cause confusion or a sense of unease,” Ouellette said.
He added that the concern is understandable because there have been incidents in the past involving individuals impersonating police officers.
Ouellette said anyone unsure about an officer’s identity should contact their local police service.
People with doubts can also call the Operational Communication Centre at 888‑506‑7267 to verify an officer’s identity.
