Four people have been arrested after a firearm was used during an extortion in Green Creek early Thursday, according to Colchester County District RCMP.
RCMP said officers were called around 1 a.m. on December 11 after four people went to a home and demanded money, with one suspect carrying a firearm.
Mounties explained that two people inside the home were then taken in a vehicle and directed to withdraw more money from an ATM.
Officers found the vehicle a short time later at a gas station in Stewiacke, where a 19‑year‑old Musquodoboit Valley man and a youth were arrested.
Police said the victims did not report injuries, and the firearm seen earlier was not in the vehicle.
Investigators later arrested a 47‑year‑old man and a 36‑year‑old woman at a home on Highway 2 in Shubenacadie.
RCMP said officers executed a search warrant at the residence and seized items supporting the investigation.
The 47‑year‑old man is facing eight charges, including extortion with a firearm, kidnapping and robbery with a firearm.
The 36‑year‑old woman is charged with extortion with a firearm, kidnapping, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
RCMP said both remain in custody ahead of scheduled court appearances on December 15 in Truro Provincial Court.
The 19‑year‑old man and the youth were released on conditions and are expected in court at a later date.
Investigators believe the incident was not random and that all individuals involved know each other.
RCMP said they are not seeking additional suspects and noted that several specialized units assisted with the investigation, including Forensic Identification Services, drone operators and Police Dog Services.
