The Saint John Police Force reported more than 1,300 vehicles were stopped during the first weekend of its annual Festive RIDE campaign.
The program, which stands for Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere, is being carried out with support from the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force and the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety.
Police said 1,326 vehicles went through checkpoints between December 5 and 7. Officers conducted 174 mandatory screenings.
The results included five immediate roadside suspensions, one seven‑day suspension, seven vehicles towed, and two suspended drivers issued.
Police also reported one arrest unrelated to the campaign.
The Festive RIDE program will continue throughout December at various locations in Saint John and the Kennebecasis Valley.
Police said the goal is to reduce impaired driving and keep roads safe during the holiday season.
