Mulgrave and Area Medical Centre staff were surprised when they saw that their food pantry was vandalized.

Co-chair of the Centre, Shaunna Scott explained to us what happened this past weekend.

“Food items were damaged and scattered through the premises. Human waste was left in one of the garbage cans. Because of those reasons, we closed the pantry immediately for cleaning and sanitization,” says Scott.

She says this isn’t the first time it has been vandalized and this time, it was done at probably the most disruptive time of year being before Christmas, when people are really looking for that extra help.

“Seeing this intentionally damaged, it’s very discouraging, especially this time of year,” expressed Scott. “However, the support that we’ve received, since we’ve shared the news, has really reminded us how strong and compassionate our community truly is.”

The Centre collects non-perishable food items, fresh food, toiletries and household essentials.

Also, this time of year, businesses and community members can be generous by giving financial donations.

They are hoping to re-open the pantry as soon as it is fixed up and restocked.
