Premier’s Council releases new N.B. disability plan

By Alex Allan Dec 4, 2025 | 5:21 AM

A new disability action plan is now on the table in New Brunswick.

The Premier’s Council on Disabilities released the strategy this week, saying it is designed to improve access and inclusion for people with disabilities.

The council said the plan builds on progress made since the last strategy in 2020.

It identifies priority areas including employment, education, housing, poverty, accessibility, transportation, recreation and wellness.

The council said more work is needed to ensure people with disabilities can fully participate in their communities, according to a government release.

The plan includes recommendations designed to improve equitable access and strengthen supports.

The council pointed to the passing of accessibility legislation as a major accomplishment from its previous plan, noting that the law was one of its key recommendations.

To inform the new strategy, the group held consultations that included a provincial survey, public meetings, one‑on‑one discussions and a legislative lunch.

“This action plan is grounded in the lived experiences of people with disabilities across the province,” said Christyne Allain, the council’s executive director.

“We deeply appreciate the stories, feedback and recommendations shared with us. Their voices guided the development of this plan and strengthened its vision.”

The council said it will continue to hold the government accountable by monitoring progress and releasing regular public updates to ensure transparency around the implementation of recommendations.
