The new long-term care facility being built in Liverpool now has an official name: The Neighbourhoods of Dogwood Lane.
The name was unveiled Friday morning at an event attended by Queens MLA Kim Masland, Region of Queens Mayor Scott Christian, municipal councillors, senior staff, and residents from both Queens Manor and Hillsview Acres.
The $108-million facility will merge those two existing homes into a single 112-bed residence.
The naming campaign launched in September and received more than 200 submissions from the community. The selected name reflects the home’s neighbourhood and household-based design, a modern model meant to create smaller, more comfortable living environments.
The new building will include four neighbourhoods, each containing two households, for a total of eight households connected by a central indoor “lane” named Dogwood Lane.
Dogwood trees have become a well-known symbol in Queens County, and the name was chosen to represent a fresh start as the two facilities combine.
The project will add 22 new long-term care beds in the region.
All bedrooms will be single occupancy with private bathrooms, and each will include ceiling lifts extending into the bathroom to support residents with mobility needs.
Provincial funding covers lifts in only a portion of the rooms, prompting a $4-million fundraising campaign to outfit the remainder.
Early donations have already been made, with all contributors set to be recognized inside the building once it opens.
Construction remains on schedule for fall 2026.
Depending on the timeline for final inspections, residents could begin moving in as early as late 2026 or in early 2027.
