Mariners get big OT win over Crushers

The Yarmouth Mariners finished their 2025 home schedule on a winning note.

Cole MacLeod scored in overtime to lift Yarmouth over the Pictou County Crushers 4-3 Sunday.

MacLeod has scored in six straight games, and leads all rookies in the MHL with 14 goals.

He says it felt great to get the win.

“I thought the whole team battled back after the loss (Saturday to Chaleur), and to come out on top in OT was huge for us,” said MacLeod post-game.

The win ended a four-game home losing streak for the Mariners, and followed up a 5-2 loss Saturday night to the Chaleur Lightning.

Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says it was a bit of a relief after giving up the tying goal with 16 seconds left.

“We had the lead, but ran into penalty trouble and didn’t get a call late. I didn’t like giving Pictou a point, but that’s hockey,” said Barron.

The Mariners are now four points back of the Crushers for the last playoff spot in the division.

They’ll play the next five games on the road.
