Don’t drive and text or talk

By Tara Clow Nov 25, 2025 | 12:52 PM

Saint John Police is raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.

A campaign is currently underway and will run until November 27.

Police say there’s a risk if a driver’s eyes come off the road for even a second.

Distractions may include eating or drinking, texting, or talking on the phone or to a passenger.

If police pull you over for distracted driving, you could face fines or a loss of demerit points or even worse.  There could be a tragedy if there’s a crash.

Suggestions from Saint John Police to prevent distracted driving:

  • Pull over to a safe location before using any electronic devices
  • Have a passenger help with GPS, answer calls or texts for you
  • Set up navigation before you start driving
  • Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the steering wheel
