The Canadian Coast Guard issued a penalty for a hazardous vessel.

The owner of the unnamed vessel that was located in Port Hawkesbury failed to comply with the Wrecked, Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act.

It was determined the vessel posed a hazard to the marine environment and public safety on September 22, 2025.

The vessel owner was directed to relocate and stabilize the vessel to ensure that any physical, environmental, or other hazards were eliminated, remedied, or otherwise properly addressed.

They were issued to pay a $12,000 penalty within 30 days or to apply for a review hearing by October 25, 2025.

Vessel owners are responsible to maintain and keep their boats in good working order and properly dispose of the vessel once it reaches the end of its life.

To date, the Canadian Coast Guard has reported over 2,000 wrecked, abandoned or hazardous boats.

Since 2016, the Government of Canada funded almost 500 projects to help remove and dispose of wrecked, abandoned, or hazardous boats across Canada and made it illegal to abandon any boat in Canada’s waters.
