New Brunswick’s government introduced legislation Wednesday to make interprovincial trade simpler.
The Free Trade within Canada Act is the latest in a series of steps to improve trade between New Brunswick and other Canadian jurisdictions, according to Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Jean-Claude D’Amours.
In a release, D’Amours said the legislation complements work already done to diversify trade and create better conditions for New Brunswick businesses.
The legislation is meant to ensure goods and services approved for sale in other Canadian jurisdictions are recognized as meeting New Brunswick’s standards.
It would also allow New Brunswick products to be more easily sold in provinces with similar legislation, including Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
The act will also establish a clear framework to ensure consistent and transparent regulatory practices for goods and services.
“This is an important step towards realizing the benefits of one Canadian economy, providing local businesses with new market access opportunities and creating growth opportunities for our provincial economy,” said Opportunities New Brunswick Minister Luke Randall.
