An early childhood educator brings home a Prime Minister’s Award to Antigonish.
Michelle Mackenzie also known as “Mickey” from Red Apple Children’s Centre was recognized with the Excellence in Early Childhood Education achievement.
She tells us she was surprised to win the honour and credits her remarkable team for their creativity and passion.
“Being an early childhood educator is more than a job for me, it’s truly a passion, so to be recognized for doing something I love, was incredibly special,” says Mickey.
She shares the importance of how she creates engaging themed environments that connect learning with play for children.
“When children walk into a space that feels exciting and meaningful, you can just see their imaginations light up,” she expresses.
Whether taking the children outside to investigate snowy animal tracks or building erupting volcanoes for science experiments, Mickey stands out for blending creativity with purpose.
“We are so incredibly proud of Mickey, and this accomplishment. It not only highlights her work and dedication to the field, but also highlights our Centre and the work that we do here,” says co-owner and co-director Brigette Forrestall.
“We wouldn’t be able to be the amazing facility we are without the work of Michelle Mackenzie, so we’re incredibly honoured that she has won this award.”
Mickey is among the 70 top educators across Canada who were recognized this year with two others from Nova Scotia.
