Day parole has been denied for a man who pleaded guilty in 2021 to numerous child pornography related charges.
The Parole Board of Canada released its decision on September 26 for Shawn Curtis Nickerson.
In an email to our newsroom, the decision states that Nickerson has made some gains and completed the required programming. “However, the risk of sexual offending remains assessed as above average,” the document states.

Nickerson was sentenced to nine years behind bars for 32 convictions, including distributing, accessing and possessing child pornography and voyeurism.
The parole document also says, “Returning you (Nickerson) to the community at this time will not contribute to the protection of society by facilitating your reintegration into society as a law-abiding citizen.”
Nickerson was a former youth basketball coach in Southeast New Brunswick.
The New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit began investigating in August 2020, as a result of information received from the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
