Development of the Port Hawkesbury waterfront is underway.
Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says cultivating the waterfront will attract new revenue streams as a working harbour and tourism destination.
“It’s going to be about kind of building that destination that’s going to benefit the residents. It’s going to benefit and attract visitors to come to Port Hawkesbury,” she remarks.
“Some of those visitors may come once, they may come twice, maybe they might decide, ‘Hey, I want to live in Port Hawkesbury,’ and wouldn’t that be wonderful?”
She thinks it’s important to maximize the amount of people that the town can welcome by sea, air, and road.
Strait Canso Yacht Club representatives presented how it is a natural asset and feature of the town that’s envied in every city in the country at a recent committee meeting.
They offered to contribute 25 per cent towards the $15,000 for the study towards the next phase of updates.
The Town of Port Hawkesbury is in the second year of the five-year plan to update infrastructure and the marina.
