Roughly 150 part-time staff walked off the job at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Wednesday, as they fight for a fair deal with the university.

According to CUPE 3912, members include roughly 375 teaching assistants, demonstrators, markers and part-time instructors.

Some members, according to the union, have not taught recently or have upcoming courses they will teach.

The union was at the table with The Mount, Tuesday, but was unable to reach a deal.

“Teaching will cease, and no new materials or assignments will be provided. Staff will also halt the grading and return of any assignments during the strike,” says CUPE on its website.

Key issues are wages and job security.

Meantime, another Halifax university that happens to be one of the largest in Canada, did reach a deal.

Dalhousie avoided job action, Monday, when it came to a tentative agreement with CUPE.

Saint Mary’s University is in talks with the union, Wednesday.
