New Brunswick’s legislature returned Tuesday with a speech from the throne that outlined the government’s priorities for the year ahead.

Lt.-Gov. Louise Imbeault delivered the address on behalf of the government, opening the second session of the 61st Legislative Assembly.

“One year ago today, New Brunswickers elected a government focused on their priorities on health care, affordability, and education,” Imbeault said.

“Since then, your government has hit the ground running and worked hard to earn the trust of New Brunswickers through transparency, collaboration, and action.”

Imbeault said the government plans to build on what has been achieved so far, while acknowledging there is still much work to do.

The speech identified six areas of focus for the session: health care, affordability and housing, education, economic development, the environment, and trusted leadership.

Premier Susan Holt said in a government release that the speech reflects a commitment to “accelerating the speed of change” while balancing short‑term commitments with longer‑term goals.

The throne speech marked both the ceremonial opening of the legislature and the government’s policy roadmap for the months ahead.
