Celebrating our region’s dark skies.
The annual Starlight Festival is taking place through Yarmouth County, it runs until October 25.
On Thursday and Friday, a starlight party is happening at the Deep Sky Eye Observatory in Quinan.
Organizer Tim Doucette says they’ve got something new at the facility.
“We are going to unveil our new telescope, it’s the largest east of Montreal, so that’s exciting,” said Doucette, who is a local astronomer at the observatory.
Doucette says we are a starlight tourism destination.
“Yarmouth, Clare and Argyle got the designation of a Starlight Tourism Destination and Reserve. 85 per cent of the world can’t see the night sky due to light pollution.”
Other events include a starlight gala on Saturday, with proceeds going to the Wedgeport Acadian heritage society.
There will also be a star party in Forest Glen, and a talk at the community centre with stargazing.
