Village council considers options for residents with dry wells

By Tara Clow Oct 10, 2025 | 9:15 AM

The wells for some Memramcook residents have dried up due to the drought, and that has forced them to find other ways of getting water.

Mayor Maxime Bourgeois says the Village council will vote this morning on a temporary water distribution system, “Offering a service where residents will be able to come and fill up their tanks for a very low cost. We’re having an emergency meeting at council to review the recommendations from Administration.”

Bourgeois is optimistic they’ll be able to offer this service while residents consider other solutions.

He adds it’s hard to say how many of the over 5000 residents are affected, but he knows not having water is causing a lot of stress on them, “With winter just around the corner and no rain in sight. The long-term forecast over the next 14 days isn’t forecasting any rain, so it is very problematic.”

He adds they are also exploring the option, for the short term, of installing a system like they have in Dieppe, where you have a FOB or a keycard, and have access to water at an available price.
