Over 50 people were honoured at a volunteer appreciation ceremony in Yarmouth.

They gathered at Mariners Centre Tuesday night, and were presented with certificates.

Yarmouth Recreation director Frank Grant says it’s important to recognize those who give up their time.

“In Nova Scotia, 79 million volunteer hours are put in each year. That’s incredible, and for a small community like Yarmouth we certainly rely on them,” said Grant, who emceed the ceremony.

The honourees included the Town and Municipality of Yarmouth provincial volunteers, Chuck Smith and Kerry Muise.

They also attended the provincial volunteer awards last month.

Grant says many have found volunteering through moving to Yarmouth, and many are longstanding volunteers who donate their time.
