The province’s minimum wage workers are are about to get a boost in pay.
Beginning Wednesday, the Ontario government will increase the minimum wage by 40 cents to $17.60 an hour.
According to the province, the increase equates to a 2.4 per cent annual increase for minimum wage workers based on the Ontario Consumer Price Index, a measure of inflation that represents changes in prices experienced by Ontario consumers.
When the increase goes into effect, a worker earning minimum wage and putting in 40 hours a week will see an annual pay increase of more than $800.
The latest increase will give Ontario the second highest provincial minimum wage rate in Canada.
Ontario’s minimum wage last increased on October 1, 2024, to $17.20 per hour.
