Some big changes are coming to the Canadian Football League.

Starting in 2027, goal posts will be moved from the front of the endzone to the back, just like the NFL.

The field will be shortened by 10 yards, and endzones will shrink by five yards.

Commissioner Stewart Johnston says it’s about safety, and modernizing the game experience.

“It’s a clear step forward in the evolution of our game, not only in how it’s played, but how it’s enjoyed,” said Johnston in a news conference.

He says moving the goalposts will create an average of 60 more touchdowns a season, and help with camera angles for fans watching at home.

Starting next year, the ‘rouge’ will be modified to take away the extra point for a missed field goal or kick through the endzone.

Benches will also be on opposite sides of the field.

The changes were approved by the league’s board of governors.
