Nearly $ 60 million will be spent over the next three months at provincial parks.
The money is to expand and upgrade campgrounds.
Three hundred new sites will be developed, with upgrades scheduled for another 800 over the next three years.
“This upgrade marks a major milestone for Ontario Parks – the most significant expansion of camping opportunities in 50 years,” says Todd McCarthy, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.
McCarthy says it also addresses the demand experienced at provincial parks.
“More people than ever before are looking to vacation in Ontario and across Canada to support their local communities. With hundreds of new and upgraded campsites, we’re giving more people the opportunity to support local businesses and jobs while camping at Ontario Parks and making memories to last a lifetime.”
While some work at certain parks in southern Ontario has been announced, the full list is not being immediately released.
The Ministry says the work will be a phased-in approach, with priority being given to projects that are ready to proceed, cost-effectiveness and the ability to deliver high value to park users.
