Ignace sending out RFPs for housing development

By Tim Davidson Sep 16, 2025 | 4:47 PM

The Town of Ignace is looking at significant growth as plans continue for a deep geological nuclear waste repository.

To that end, the town is seeking developers to build a subdivision.

A Negotiated Request for Proposals has been sent out.

Mayor Kim Baigrie believes this is a great opportunity for the town.

“This is such an exciting time for our community, and we are so delighted that we are issuing our first ever request for proposals on a potential new housing subdivision in Ignace,” says Baigrie.

“The economic development opportunities associated directly with the upcoming site selection of the NWMO Centre of Expertise, the eventual development of the deep geological repository and other potential developments is driving the Township to ensure we are well placed and in a positive position to house prospective employees, new residents and families who may be part of our community in the future.”

Mayotte Agimak Terrace Subdivision has 46 serviced residential parcels of property, 215 un-serviced lots and a six-acre block for multi-residential development.

The town says it is seeking qualified developers to purchase and develop municipal property.

The scope of work would involve the design, construction, and servicing of these lots.
