Carney announces $80M in tariff relief for Atlantic Canada

By News Sep 8, 2025 | 3:53 PM

Millions of dollars for tariff relief in Atlantic Canada.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced $80 million for industries most affected, including steel, manufacturing and seafood.

In St. John’s, Newfoundland, Carney said we can’t rely on the United States like we once did.

“But we can control our destiny. We’re focusing on what we can control, and building our economic strength right here at home,” said Carney.

The money comes from Ottawa’s billion dollar Regional Tariff Response Initiative.

“It will fund small and medium sized businesses across the region, not just to invest, but to thrive. Over half of our $30 billion ocean economy is right here in Atlantic Canada.”

Carney says the U.S. has changed the global trade landscape, but Canada has the best deal.
