RCMP say road safety is key during back to school

By News Sep 3, 2025 | 2:08 PM

Lots of littles will be excited to board the bus for the first time.

RCMP are out with some road safety reminders ahead of the first day of school Thursday.

You’re asked to be extra careful with the added traffic and pedestrians, and to slow down in school zones.

If you speed through the zone, you could be fined up to $700 and lose your licence for a week.

You also need to obey stop and flashing lights on school buses, and come to a complete stop.

If you don’t, you could face a $400 fine and six points off your licence.

RCMP also ask parents to remind kids about safety when crossing the road near buses, and waiting at your designated stop.

Don’t share intimate images online

RCMP are also warning about the dangers of sharing intimate images online.

They remind youth that it’s a crime, and that once you send an image or video, you lose control of where it goes.

Police warn against accepting random friend requests, and say you should talk to a parent or guardian if something happens to you online.
