Provincial police step up enforcement during Labour Day weekend

Another long weekend brings another weekend of enhanced enforcement by the Ontario Provincial Police.

Motorists engaged in dangerous driving behaviours and actions are being specifically targeted.

OPP says more than 200 people have already died this year on roads they patrol.

Speeding, impaired driving, driver inattention and improper seatbelt use have contributed to a large number of the fatalities and remain the leading causes or contributing factors in road deaths each year.

Police will also be patrolling area lakes and are counting on boaters, paddlers and other water users, as well as trail users, to be safe this weekend.

Patrols will also watch that boaters are following the rules, including wearing lifejackets, and that trail riders are wearing helmets where applicable.

OPP also encourage others to report suspected impaired drivers and any other dangerous drivers to police.
