RCMP have charged a doctor with sexual assault after an alleged incident at a Nova Scotia hospital emergency room.
Police say they received a report in May that an assault had occurred in January during an assessment at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan.
Officers arrested a man on August 14th. He was released on conditions and is to appear in court in Amherst in November.
Investigators believe there may be more victims in Nova Scotia or other places where he’s practiced.
The accused was also previously employed in Quebec and was in this province before his arrest.
According to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick directory, a doctor of the same name works at the Edmundston Regional Hospital but under conditions.
This means there are restrictions on his practice:
- He can only conduct intimate examinations of a patient’s sexual organs or breasts, regardless of their gender, in the presence of a chaperone.
- He must explain to the patient, in the presence of the chaperone, the rationale for the intimate examination and document this discussion and the identity of the chaperone in the chart.
Police say victims who contact them can discuss an incident before deciding to further participate in the investigation and court process.
