Quad County residents have been reporting a strong smell of smoke.
The Havre Boucher Fire Department posted on Facebook Thursday morning that calls are coming in all over the area as far as Mabou, Inverness, Whycocomagh, and Cape George.
They posted that after a conversation with the Department of Natural Resources, it is more than likely smoke coming in from other areas of the province.
Later they added a comment that the smoke is coming from New Brunswick.
They say they “are staying in contact with DNRR who is reviewing their lightning data logs from the past 12 hours.”
The fire department says they are monitoring the situation closely and talking with their counterparts in other departments and agencies.
Meanwhile, Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation says if a wildfire were to hapen near the community, the Paqtnkek EMO team, has response actions alongside external response agencies.
