Celebrating Acadian Day: new ‘Expo culturelle’ to be held in Clare

A new way to celebrate Acadian culture in Clare.

The first ‘Expo Culturelle’ is being held at Universite Sainte-Anne in Church Point Friday and Saturday.

It coincides with National Acadian Day on Friday, and the end of the 70th Festival Acadien de Clare.

Area tourism manager Larry Peach says it’s part of a project to help tourism in the region.

“We’re excited to bring a new event to the community. This is a two year project with the federal government and province, and we’re looking to bring some more events, especially in the shoulder seasons of tourism in the spring and fall,” said Peach.

The two-day expo will feature Acadian cuisine and seafood, with live music and a trade show.

It was inspired by last year’s successful ‘Congres Mondial Acadien’ that drew thousands to the area.

Peach says National Acadian Day is already one of Clare’s biggest days of the year.

“What we’re trying to do is build more events and excitement around a popular weekend to double down, and encourage visitors to stay in the area longer.”

Over 30 local vendors will be in attendance.

A beach party is also planned at Belliveau Cove on Saturday, along with a Tintamarre on Friday.
