Boil water order for some Moncton residents

By Brad Perry Aug 10, 2025 | 8:49 PM

Some Moncton residents will need to boil their water due to an ongoing wildfire north of the city.

A boil water order was issued Sunday evening for Elmwood Drive north of the Trans-Canada Highway.

This includes Granite Drive, Royal Oaks Subdivision, and civic addresses including and above 759 Elmwood Drive.

“The Boil Order is a result of high water flows from ongoing fire suppression efforts in the area and has resulted in high turbidity levels,” the city said in a statement on its Facebook page.

All water intended for drinking, preparing infant formulas and juices, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, brushing teeth and dental hygiene needs to be held at a rolling boil for at least one minute.

Toddlers and infants should be sponge-bathed and caregivers need to ensure that no water is swallowed.

You may experience discoloured water or air in your plumbing systems. If you completely lose water pressure, the city recommends turning off the circuit breaker for your hot water heater to prevent damage to the heating elements.

“The City of Moncton is evaluating all available information and is working with the Department of Health,” said the city.

“Testing will continue over the next 72 hours to ensure the highest standards of water quality are offered to our customers.”
