Possible measles exposure in Lower Sackville and Kennetcook

By Caitlin Snow Jul 30, 2025 | 9:25 AM

Nova Scotia Health is warning about two possible measles exposures.

Out of the 35 cases in the northern zone, eight are confirmed, and the remaining are considered confirmed based on household exposure and symptoms.

However, there are two additional exposures being investigated:

Guardian Kennetcook Pharmacy: Highway 354 Unit 2 Kennetcook, on Thursday, July 3 and Sunday, July 6

Cobequid Community Health Centre – Mobile Primary Care Clinic and Blood Collection Waiting Room: 40 Freer Lane, Lower Sackville on Sunday, July 6

Measles is highly contagious, viral, and is transmitted by direct contact with droplets or airborne spread when someone infected breathes, coughs or sneezes.

Most recover within two or three weeks.

The best protection, according to Public Health, is to get vaccinated.

Symptoms usually start within 7-21 days, so if you were exposed and have no symptoms, you are no longer at risk of getting measles from this exposure.

Symptoms include:

  • fever
  • cough, runny nose, red eyes
  • small white spots in mouth and throat
  • red blotchy rash on the face, that spreads down the body

If you were exposed and have symptoms you are asked to call Public Health at 902-481-5824
