Digby mayor, tourism sector welcome reduced ferry rates

Excitement in Digby as Fundy Rose fares are slashed in half.

The ferry to Saint John was part of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement to reduce costs for interprovincial travel.

Digby Mayor Mike Bartlett says it’s great news for both sides.

“It will increase tourism. Also many students go to Saint John and New Brunswick for university, plus it will have a great impact on the seafood industry. It’s wonderful all around,” said the mayor.

Doug Ralph with Digby Area Tourism says it’s music to their ears.

“Especially in a year where Canadians are exploring their own backyards, and we’re seeing a ton of travel across Canada, lots of licence plates from all of our wonderful provinces,” said Ralph.

The changes take effect on Friday, as of now it costs $91 round trip for an adult, and $128 for a vehicle one-way.
