Argyle 103 work halted due to archaeological discovery

A project to improve safety on Highway 103 is on hold.

Construction on the Exit 32 project in Argyle has hit a snag, due to a newly identified protected area near the Argyle River.

MLA Colton LeBlanc says it’s an area of archaeological and cultural significance.

“Efforts are now looking at re-scoping the project, but we understand the importance of this project for residents and all road users,” said LeBlanc.

There are three main components to the project, a bridge over the river, along with an overpass and interchange.

“As a government, we remain fully committed to this project. We need to re-scope it in a way that looks at public safety and improves the area for everyone.”

There is no timeline for the project to resume.
